The Universal Civil Service is the voluntary choice to dedicate up to one year of your life to the non-armed and non-violent defense of the homeland, education, peace among nations, and the promotion of the founding values of the Italian Republic, through actions that benefit communities and the territory. It is open to all young people aged between 18 and 28 (not yet 29), including foreigners legally residing in Italy.
–What the Civil Service Offers–
Becoming a Civil Service volunteer adds to the desire to give something of yourself to others and your country the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge and skills. More generally, it represents a chance for personal growth and development. This is why the Universal Civil Service can be a valuable experience in the workplace.
The law provides for the allocation of what are called formative credits for those who serve in the Universal Civil Service, which can then be recognized in the context of education or vocational training. Universities can also grant academic credits for activities carried out during the Universal Civil Service, relevant to the curriculum. Volunteers receive a monthly allowance of €507.30 (with an additional allowance for those involved in projects abroad, based on the “country cost” where the volunteers are engaged). The activities carried out do not establish a work relationship and do not affect the registration or removal from employment lists or mobility lists.
